Functional vs. Magic Mushrooms

Functional vs. Magic Mushrooms

“Are these magic mushrooms?” is one of the most common questions we get.

No. Flow and Zing are non-psychoactive supplements. They do not contain psilocybin, and they will not make you hallucinate.

What People Mean by Magic Mushrooms

Magic mushrooms are species that contain psilocybin. The body converts psilocybin into psilocin, which affects serotonin receptors and can alter perception, mood, and thinking.

Psilocybin remains a Schedule I controlled substance under federal law. Some states and cities have changed how they regulate or enforce laws involving psilocybin, but that does not make it a legal dietary-supplement ingredient nationwide.

What Functional Mushrooms Are

“Functional mushroom” is a marketing term commonly used for non-psychoactive species studied for nutrition or wellness uses. Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps, Reishi, Chaga, and Turkey Tail are common examples.

These mushrooms do not naturally contain psilocybin. Some are also eaten as food. Others are commonly sold as powders or extracts.

What’s in Flow and Zing?

Flow contains Lion’s Mane with Bacopa, Gotu Kola, and Rhodiola. It is built around focus and cognitive support.

Zing contains Cordyceps with Maca, Schisandra, and Rhodiola. It is built around energy and stamina.

None of those ingredients are psychedelic. Bacopa, Gotu Kola, Rhodiola, Maca, and Schisandra are botanicals, not mushrooms.

Why People Mix Them Up

The word “mushroom” covers a huge number of species, and some wellness brands use trippy packaging that blurs the line on purpose. That may get attention, but it does not help people understand what they’re buying.

Read the species name and ingredient list. A clear label should tell you exactly what is in the product without making you guess.

The Short Answer

Psilocybin mushrooms are psychoactive. The functional mushrooms used in Flow and Zing are not. They should not be treated as interchangeable, legally or biologically.
